Words I have not used to describe much of anything in the house: beautiful, gorgeous, I LOVE IT. The most common phrases I have used have been: “It has potential…, that could be pretty…., can we freshen that up? and (the most frequent), Oh My!”. Until this week. Finally, I said the words: “Hello Beautiful!”.
It was the weekend. The house was off limits as the crew was sanding and putting a finishing coat on the floors. No foot traffic allowed. I had a good friend in town to figure out how to paint the walls and ceiling of the stairwell, with all it’s quirky layers. We had planned to stand on the porch and just figure it out. The fellas working on the house took pity on us and said, “you can come up and see what we are doing”. Hello Beautiful! The floors were absolutely gorgeous.
During renovation, the termite damage was prevalent. So, we had decided to replace the floors on the ground level with historic, heart pine from an old Southern cotton mill. We thought the upstairs floors were in good shape, but we just would not know until we sanded them down. The quality of the heart pine exceeded our expectations. We finally got lucky! And that seemed to be the beginning of “Hello Beautiful” moments that would continue this week.
Cabinets arrived and I was thrilled with my last minute decision to go with a soft gray instead of white. The sink was installed and the pocket doors were repaired. We are on a roll! Decisions are happening fast and furious, like a Quick Fire Challenge (a nod to Top Chef coming to Charleston….). And if we continue to have moments like this,
